South Florida Gives Back

#PayItForward With HiddenCashSFL

Many of you may have heard of a growing trend which began recently in California, where a complete stranger decided to give back to his community by hiding money in various locations, then tweeting clues to his followers.  It’s a huge, social media scavenger hunt, based entirely on the principle of “paying it forward.”  Since InSouthFlorida was born out of a desire to give back to our community, this particular trend caught our attention.

One of our main goals has always been to help those in our own backyard, and we have always had a plan as to how we would accomplish that.  We purchased SouthFloridaGivesBack.com some time ago, with that main goal of ours in mind. We opened a sister account on twitter, @HiddenCashSFL, which will be working in conjunction with South Florida Gives Back, and we would like all of our members to be involved in our endeavor.  To get this project started, every time a business advertises with us, we will take a percentage of that revenue and use it to give cash back to the residents of South Florida.  We have several different ideas on how this can be done, everything ranging from hiding cash-filled envelopes around town, to providing underprivileged students with brand new school supplies.

How it Works

Basically, it’s a scavenger hunt.  We take the cash / gift card / donation and hide it in an undisclosed location, in a marked envelope or package.  We begin by tweeting out one clue accompanied by a photo to all of our followers.  If the envelope is not found within a certain amount of time, an additional clue will be given, and that process will repeat itself until the envelope is found.  The finder is asked to tweet a picture of themselves with their winnings, and also to mention @HiddenCashSFL in their tweet.

How You Can Get Involved

The opportunities to help our neighbors are endless, and the business owners within our community are an essential part of this plan.  You don’t have to wait for us to initiate the donations, however.  You can always contact us with ideas or suggestions and we will be more than happy to assist!  There are many people in need here in South Florida, and there are several charitable organizations that could benefit from our help.  Money is not the only form of charity, you may have a product or service that those in need could use.  It can be something they need, or it can be something that is just meant to put a smile on someone’s face or brighten up their day.  For example, you can donate gift cards from your store, or a voucher for a free meal at your restaurant, and we will take care of finding a location and tweeting out clues.

If you would like to get involved, please email us at local@insouthflorida.com and we will help you get started.
